Caquesseitão Alegrete

An Indo-Portuguese silver model of a “Caquesseitao” circa 1700 (Estimate: 200,000 – 300,000 EUR)

The wonderful silver aquamanile in the form of the “Caquesseitão” that did not sell at Christie’s last year, and about which JJ Teixeira wrote, is now up for sale again at Sotheby’s Paris with a much more reasonable estimate. From the collection of the Marqueses de Alegrete, it is indeed extraordinary but not unique, as it belongs to a group of about eight of this same design.

ps: Sold for eur 150,000 plus premium.
