Breathtakingly beautiful, the Hudson Valley is home of many stunning houses, many belonging to the New York old (and new) money families. From the ugly Vanderbilt mansion in Hyde Park to the uninteresting Kykuit (owned by the Rockefellers) in Tarrytown, they are all situated in stunning surroundings and for that reason only deserve to be visited. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful surprise to visit the house of the Hudson River School painter Frederick Edwin ChurchOlana – last weekend and be bewildered not only by the magnificent views but also by the fantasy home he created for his family. A truly special place.
